Rinnai heat exchanger removal on a RL series unit.
This is an old video that I am reposting and renaming. This is one of the most asked questions I get and it's very hard to answer it over the phone. Even though I strictly do Navien I do answer and try to help people with all different unites. Most of the time it's a piping, vent or gas problem but sometimes it's a unit that has an internal problem.
This is in my opinion the hardest thing to do on a unit the removal and replacement of a heat exchanger. Sometimes the unit is leaking so badly that it has destroyed other parts in the unit and then only solution is to replace the whole unit. There is also a lot of tools to be used in the process of doing the work, in my opinion if you're not a trained service Teck you should call a qualified service company to ProForm the switch out.
If you have a question, you can E-mail me at/ economyplmbg@aol.com
I hope you enjoy the video,
Mike

How to protect your tankless during a storm and how to temporally power it.
Переглядів 42512 годин тому
Here in Florida, we get a lot of storms where we lose power and when the utility company restores the power we get surges. A few years ago, during a Hurricane after the power was restored in a few neighborhoods we had over 45 PC boards fry due to power surges. So, when I install all my exterior unites because interior unites come with a plug, I wire all my unites with a pigtail that I plug into...

Certain customers like restaurants and hotels have their own folders so the paperwork gets put into it. All serial nu...

What's really behind the condensate drain on a Navien NPE unit

This is something I get a lot of questions about and this week we had not one but three unites that were leakers because the condensate drains were not installed correctly. I cannot stress how important it is to correctly install...

Setting a Navien controller on a NPE unit

On a Navien NPE series unites there highly efficient condensing ones the controller needs to be set for proper operation. Proper piping for multiple Navien tankless heaters, First in Last out

I get a lot of questions about this, and I see a lot of improper installations on social media on what a great installation and the hot and cold-water piping is done the wrong way. Proper condensate drain piping for a condensing tankless heater.
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 місяці тому
This is probably one of the most important parts of an installation of a condensing tankless heater. Thank you -- had a code 10 on an RL75 interior unit and had the problem of hot water running cold after a few minutes. Cleaned out blower that was full of dead stuff. Saw a bit of debris in the exhaust line as well and cleared it. I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the blower, but was able to clean it out without disconnecting (with power off). So far, hot showers. A local plumber wanted $850 to clean the unit with no guarantee it would solve the problem or $4200 for a new unit. I had descaled a few times and cleaned out the water filter, but the blower cleanup seems like it's solved the problem. THANK YOU!

Hey tankless guy congratulations on your growth and certainly wish you the best in the future! Question for you... I am a homeowner I have Rinnai RU180in ... It's just over 3 yrs old. I have performed a flush on the unit so I think I'm good there. However, I'm getting hot water for about 15-20 minutes and then it goes cold for 3 minuites or so, and then returns back to hot. I have seen several videos on UA-cam where guys are taking out the blower and clean it out and put it back in. My unit doesn't a blower that you can easily access like the ones I've seen on UA-cam. Any recommendations? Thank you!

What I’ve been trying find out is does Rinnai make an attachment to cover the intake, the outdoor aspect, screen to cut down on the amount of larger insects from entering the unit? It can be a problem especially during years of a lot of moths or wasps, I think I can design one that won’t interfere with the exhaust. My intake/exhaust pipe is longer than the one shown since it’s about 13 years old. I’ve been looking for such an attachment pretty much everywhere.

Hello I have a brand new rinnai tankless water I installed. The units blower keeps turning Off and on. It's a solid light, so it indicates water flow and flame present. Except I have no water running and no leaks. What do you think could be the issue? Any help is appreciated.

Are your isolation valves set properly? Have you verified water flow by disconnecting the inlet and outlet? I can open the pressure relief on my unit and get to turn on and flow. I assume it's a water flow or a flame sense issue. Maybe tech suport can walk you through trouble shooting to figure out what it is. Do you have a DMM and know how to use it?

He states it is called...water servo valve. I call it a flow sensor. I just had the same model NPE240A2 diagnosed by Tech Support at Navien over the phone today (7/2/24). Sympton was low hot water temp at all faucets. Flow rate on screen of tankless WH showed 0.7 GPM and I know there was at least 1.7 GPM flowing through it. Tech Support zeroed in on the issue fairly quick. It was the check valve not the flow sensor (water servo valve). There is a bypass valve inside in the lower left corner as you face the unit labeled INT and EXT. Valve arm swings 90 degrees. Tech Support had me turn the arm from INT to EXT which bypasses the holding tank (so these units do have a tank, just very small) just above it. The flow rate on the WH now showed the correct flow rate. They determined the check valve was defective. Being held partially open. My unit is still under warranty. They FedEx'd a new check valve to me overnight. I'll replace the check valve tomorrow. Looks very easy and simple. They did state instructions are included with the new part. Here is a UA-cam video on replacing it if that is your issue.... ua-cam.com/video/Y76PrCV2ho8/v-deo.html Not the same model as mine in the video but you can see what the check valve looks like and how to replace. I worked for a month trying to figure WTH was wrong. My Navien would work fine for a few days to a week and then fail. I would power cycle the unit and most of the time it started working normal. Today it failed and no matter what I did, it would only show 0.7 GPM on the screen and only get luke warm water at any hot water faucet. So glad it is finally resolved. These videos about the Navien are AWESOME!!! Thanks UA-cam Creators...much appreciated. Tom

I got the INT and EXT positions reversed. Tech Support had me move the arm from EXT to INT. Sorry about that. Basically whatever position it is in before doing anything....change it to the other position and test the TWH again. Tom

rinnai says to leave the filter on when flushing

    • @ThatTanklessGuy
      @ThatTanklessGuy 14 днів тому

Rinnai is wrong. If you leave the filter on when flushing you will not get the GPM through the heat exchanger also sediment in your bucket will clog the filter also decreasing the flow. The pump will flush out all debris from the exchanger during the flush.

No need for pliers, or forcing something in it.

Hey Mike! First of all thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge on here. You’ve been a godsend for a junior DIY plumber like myself. I have a Rinnai question for you. I installed a RU180in for my home. It’s working great, however I let my curiosity get the best of me and accidentally entered some form of programming menu. Long story short, I changed some settings and would like to factory reset my unit. I’ve tried holding both A&B, power cycling the unit, etc. None of these seem to change it back. I’m locked at 110F max temp and have concerns other settings were changed. Is there a method to factory reset? If not, where can I find documentation that explains the advanced programming menu so I can verify all the settings? Thanks again, love the channel.

I had a plumber come in and put in a dedicated return line from my kitchen faucet to the tankless. So the hot line goes from the tankless to the faucet. There's a loop maybe 20 feet from the tankless with a check valve in it and the arrow points to the tankless. The loop goes back to the tankless and into the cold water. There's a check valve about a foot from where the loop enters the cold water to prevent it from going back up that pipe. The loop goes into the tankless cold water inlet. The problem is that sometimes the water will just be lukewarm. I can touch the hot pipe coming from the tankless and it's hot. But it's like it keeps recirculating cold water into the pipe or something and never stopping. I'm pretty sure the tankless setting is 4B. I don't know if setting 5 is set to comfort or economy. The plumber who initially installed the tankless said it's a cold water sandwich. He is not the plumber who installed the loop. What's causing this issue?
